The Blessing Of Boundaries with Kristeen LaBrot

Did you know that one-third of all engagements wedding engagements happen in November and December? I guess something about the holidays gets people feeling romantic. Which means my guest this week is about to be very busy! I am talking to award-winning wedding planner and fellow nerd and crazy cat lady Kristeen LaBrot.

This week on the show, I sat down with Kristeen LaBrot to discuss setting boundaries, attracting your ideal clients, and how she found balance through the art of saying “No.”

Kristeen is an award-winning wedding planner based in Los Angeles who has united her love of style with her passion for planning to build Kristeen LaBrot Events -- a unique wedding planning company that truly stands out in the industry. Her focus on infusing personality into every wedding and her commitment to authenticity have marked her as an expert in event planning, and her work has been featured in magazines such as The Knot and Town & Country. She has been voted “Best Wedding Planner” by California Wedding Day magazine three times and attributes her success to setting clear boundaries and honing in on the types of clients she wants to collaborate with, along with accepting that things will not always go according to plan.

Kristeen shares her perspectives on how she stopped feeling bad about turning away potential clients and learned to see her competitors as her allies. She also shares advice on setting expectations that your clients can understand. We also get some insight into how she became a wedding planner, what makes or breaks a wedding, and how she overcame her fear of rejection to become one of the most sought-after wedding planners in the game. I’m so excited to have Kristeen on the show and share her inspiring story!

During this episode, Kristeen opens up about knowing your boundaries, standing up, and saying “No” when you’re not fully invested. An important thing to remember is that talking to everyone doesn’t serve you. It’s hard to be fulfilled if you’re not setting boundaries; it can lead to serious resentment and disappointment, but you can avoid these pitfalls with clear communication and a deeper understanding of your expectations. Kristeen gives insightful advice on being confident in turning away clients that don’t mesh with your personality while staying diplomatic during the process.

My favorite takeaway from our discussion is that you don’t have to please everyone. Don’t overextend yourself just to make everyone else happy or because you’re too afraid to say no--know your priorities and speak up. If something isn’t up your alley, don’t force it; focus on finding and attracting your ideal clients instead!
